03/28/2020. Life, Stuff, and COVID-19

Well, we are almost through the month of March and now into the first days of spring. Rain is falling, and many folks in America are working remotely in self-quarantine (or family quarantine), just trying to get through the odd reality in which we live.

It’s bad, no doubt; but, It’s not all bad.

Frankly, it seems to me that most people are in contact with their loved ones more during the present than they have been in years. I myself have done this. Granted, I am one of the few essential employees who still leaves my home each day in order to work from an office location, so I am somewhat spoiled in terms of being in the world, seeing folks in person, and having some semblance of the old normal. Despite this, even I have found the need to reach toward friends and family to check on them and ensure they are still well. This is a good thing.

Also, the inability to go places and spend money has reduced my going places and spending money (wow! imagine that). So, there’s a win there, too.

Finally, I’m finding that most people with whom I speak are having POSITIVE experiences within their household–in forms such as but not limited to gaming, walks or bike rides with the fam at local property, and meals together. Another big win for family live as far as I am concerned.

So COVID-19 is making life harder. No doubt about it. BUT it’s not making it unbearable, and it’s not all bad.

On the less serious front, I am thinking it is time for another purge of my collection. The boxes-on-boxes have grown into fairly large piles, and I am getting back to that place wherein I do not know what I have. That’s a problem. It’s easy to look at a lot of 50 Micro Machines, keep 4 and think you know exactly what is in your hands…but when you do that across 100 lots, well, the numbers add quickly. Needless to say, there’s a lot of stuff I’ve kept from the store that I simply don’t need—things that I got for so cheap it seemed silly at the time not to hang onto them. But with two of my major spring shows/events canceled and no garage sales in sight for the spring, I’m facing a real supply chain problem. Seems like I’m going to have to dig through the closet for stuff to get my rolling value numbers back to where I want them. Plus, eBay has given all store subscribers a free 50,000 listings, so I feel it only responsible to maximize at least 1,000 of those between now and the end of April. This may all be just the reason I need to get my own stuff as well-sorted and labeled as the store’s. Ha! Don’t I wish!

I will leave it at that for now. Stay Healthy, everyone.
